11 Mile Bike Ride Bellevue Loop

It’s been 4 months since our last ride on the Bellevue Loop, and that ride we were on different bikes. That time I had my Schwinn Jaguar and Vicky was using her single speed three wheeler for our trail ride near Bellevue Nebraska and Offutt AFB.

Easier Ride Using Our Trek Bicycles

Although it was still the same trail, it was a much easier ride on our Trek bikes which our now our favorites. Looking back on this weekend’s ride on the Bellevue Loop, I can’t recall anything that felt like a hill on this trail.

The trail is mostly pretty straight and smooth. There is a definite sharp turn near the sewage treatment plant, though.

We began our ride from Haworth Park in Bellevue (nice park, real toilets, running water, and a drinking fountain). We set ourselves a goal of riding to the trail head parking near the sewage plant, which appeared to be about 5-6 miles down the trail.

At the trail head, we took a short break, and I took this picture as a reminder that it was 5.4 miles one way from Haworth Park to this location. Temperature reads 90 degrees in this semi shaded location. There was a bench here, but it was in the sunshine..

At this location there is a definite aroma from the sewage treatment plant, and we turned around and headed back in the direction of Haworth Park, having accomplished half our ride.

Wildlife on the Bellevue Loop Trail

Along the trail I couldn’t help but notice a huge hawk circling low and not too far away from the trail. Slowing down and then pulling off the trail to park, I waited for the hawk to come closer. as I waited, I took this picture of Vicky just as she was pointing out five deer in a nearby field.

However, by the time I turned with the camera to face the location of the deer, they had already disappeared into the woods. So much for getting a picture of the deer.

We played around with the camera a bit, taking random photos and more than a few pictures of the two hawks that were now in our area. We never could get a nice enough hawk picture to post here, though.

After this stop, we continued back to Haworth Park, and rode around the park a bit, bringing our total distance for this ride to just a touch over eleven miles

Length of this bike ride: 11 Miles

Total miles biked together in 2008: 119.28 Miles
