7 Mile Bike Ride Keystone Trail South of Aspen Park

Vicky's first long ride on her brand new Trek Three Wheeler (with 3 speeds) was seven miles (almost) on the Keystone Trail

A New Bike For Vicky

Yesterday Vicky bought a Trek Pure Trike Deluxe, and, although we stopped on the way home from the bike store yesterday for a short ride, today was our first true trail ride when she was on her new Trek.

We selected the Keystone Trail for today’s ride, and left the car at Aspen Park (54th and Aspen), a location we have used as a rest stop several times.

We headed south on the Keystone, and soon reached the section of the trail that was new to us. The scenery wasn’t too exciting, lots of farmland (corn and soybeans), the trail was fairly flat, pretty straight, and wide. Overall, it was a great place to get acquainted with a new bike and the concept of a three speed versus a single speed.

Near the Place Where the Keystone and West Papio Trails Meet

We rode as far south as the bridges where the Keystone Trail and the West Papio Trail meet. We did stop here for a bit, just to congratulate ourselves for reaching this location. Nothing of true interest is at this spot, though there is a sign and a map here, it does seem to be a nice spot to place a shaded bench.

If we had decided to cross this bridge and head up the West Papio Trail, we would have ended up Halleck Park.

Our maps show that if one heads south on the Keystone from our turnaround spot, you will get to the Bellevue Loop Trail. This is a bit further than we dare go, at least not yet.

Vicky did well on her new Trek three wheeler, was able to go faster. She reached a top speed of 13.6 mph, had no problem on level ground of sustaining a speed of 9-10 mph for quite a ways, and enjoyed the ride and the fact that she now has three speeds instead of just a single speed three wheeler.

She especially appreciated the fact that on our stop under the bridge, she was able to use her low gear and get up the hill from under the bridge with no extreme effort.

Nice ride today, the weather was pleasant, we had a few clouds every now and then, it wasn’t too hot or too windy, and we managed to ride just a bit under seven miles.
