10.4 Mile Tandem Bike Ride Bellevue Loop Trail
Bellevue Loop Trail Do You Want An Easy Bike Ride in the Omaha Area? Ride your bike on the Bellevue Loop! That is, if you want a nice trail that is quite flat, no serious hills here, but there are a few barely noticable grades. Of course, that would be if you go as far as our preferred turn around point, and come back. That's about ten miles total. The picture above was taken a couple miles or so down the trail. We like to begin our ride at Haworth Park in Bellevue, with the car conveniently parked near the first bathroom after one enters the park. It's a tiny bit beyond the trailhead.
Bellevue Loop Trailhead Area Why Start and End Your Ride Here? Haworth Park has running water, modern bathrooms, shade trees, picnic tables, and a nice view of the Missouri River. There is also a nice trail running through the park if you or your kids want to go for a much shorter ride. It's a nice place to sit and relax for a bit after a ride.
Bellevue Loop Halfways Done Bellevue Loop Halfways Done If a ten mile ride on the Bellevue Loop is what you want, keep your eyes open for this spot off the trail. It's about five miles down the trail. Nope, no bathroom, no running water, but shade and a bench. There is also a small gravel parking lot if you want to start your ride from here. Though generally this is a far as we go, last summer we continued up the trail, and discovered from a trail marker that we were no longer on the Bellevue Loop, but it had turned into the Keystone Trail, so if you wish, there are many many more miles of trail beyond this point.
Bellevue Loop Road Crossing Bellevue Loop Road Crossing On our described ride, there are two dirt roads to cross. Vehicle traffic is unlikely, but possible. In this mid April photo, crops have not been planted. This is a fairly nice place to stop. We have seen deer and hawks in this area of the trail.
Bellevue Loop Field Colors Bellevue Loop Field Colors We made it a special point of stopping here so that Vicky could take a few pictures of this colorful field. I almost always bring the camera with on our bike rides and stop, perhaps too often, for a picture or two. Thoughts On This Bike Ride I was figuring on a shorter ride than this, but Vicky wanted to keep going to our "normal" turnaround pint we had used in previous years. On the way back, about 8 miles into the ride we began to get a bit tired and just concentrated on pedaling and getting back. We have a few aches and pains today, the day after the ride, but nothing terrible. Still, we are glad we made ten miles. Weather? a bit cool at the start of the ride. Vicky almost was wishing she wore her light jacket, but it warmed up just enough before too long. Not much wind, and a pleasant day for a ride.
